National Foster Parent Association
By Peggy Messer

The National Foster Parent Association is a non-profit, volunteer organization established in 1972 as a result of the concerns of several independent groups that felt the country needed a national organization to meet the needs of foster families in the United States.

Mission Statement
To support foster parents in achieving safety, permanence and well-being for the children and youth in care.

The Mahoning County Foster Parents became a member of this national organization in 2002. In the last seven years the association has provided both emotional and physical support to each other. The FPA meets on a monthly basis providing an open forum for foster parents to speak their minds about the children in their homes. The Mahoning County Children Services works in unison with the FPA through BASIC meetings held bi-monthly to address those concerns.

The Foster Parent Association spends an entire year planning their annual Christmas Party. Fundraisers are planned throughout the year to raise money for this party for our foster children and their families. To reach this goal, they hold an annual pie sale fundraiser. The pies are made by Bake Mark, a local company. The sale begins late September and pies can be purchased until October 16, 2009. The pies are delivered on Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Children Services garage beginning at 10:00 until 5:00.

Just imagine it’s the holidays and you promised you would bring a pie for dessert. You can serve up a delicious warm apple, pumpkin, or one of our favorites, Apple Carmel Walnut pie. If you don’t tell them, they won’t know you didn’t spend hours in the kitchen making them. There are also other fruit pies that are thaw and serve, pies like pecan, Blueberry, Blackberry, Chocolate Cream, just to name a few. They even have No Sugar added pies for those watching their calories. If you want a delicious, mouth watering, comfort food like pie, and would like to support a great cause you can do both by ordering these pies.

The cost of these pies range from $7.00 to $10.00. If you would like to order, or would like more information, please contact one of the FPA officers:

Marguerite Felice   330-782-3554
Kim Schuler   330-726-9552
Colleen Thomas   330-565-4856

Payment is due at the time of your order!
